Meet: APS

Energy customers across Arizona want access to cleaner energy and the choice to adopt advanced technologies in their homes and businesses. Addressing these customer trends while continuing to deliver clean, reliable and affordable energy is driving innovation at APS.

As Arizona’s largest and longest-serving electric company, APS continues to make investments in resources and technology to meet customers’ changing needs. The company already provides customers with an energy mix that is 50 percent clean and getting cleaner. That includes clean resources such as solar – APS ranks fifth among U.S. investor-owned utilities for solar capacity – and dependable, carbon-free nuclear power from the Palo Verde Generating Station, the nation’s largest electricity producer.

In February, APS announced plans to increase its clean energy resources to help customers get more “solar after sunset.” The company will add 850 megawatts of battery energy storage and at least 100 megawatts of large-scale solar generation by 2025. This represents a major down payment on Arizona’s continued progress to a clean, sustainable energy future.

One of the primary drivers for adopting technologies at APS is giving customers more choices on how to use, save and manage energy. From service plans that work with technology to smart thermostat programs that encourage savings during times of peak demand, customers now have more options. APS has launched a pilot program to increase access to charging stations for electric vehicles, making driving EVs more convenient for customers.

These programs are vital in helping customer service evolve as Arizona continues to grow. APS serves more than 1.2 million business and residential customers, encompassing 2.7 million people in 11 of Arizona’s 15 counties. By 2030, the company expects to add up to 700,000 new customers.

APS also continues to build a corporate culture that respects and leverages the different backgrounds, experiences and viewpoints of the communities the company serves. For instance, the APS Supplier Diversity and Development program has helped to enable $300 million in spending with diverse suppliers for five consecutive years.

That commitment to diversity applies to its 6,300 employees as well. APS works to attract and develop a diverse workforce and leadership team that fosters innovation, inclusion and high performance. Leaders encourage and support an open, engaging environment that recognizes employees’ unique needs and values their diverse talent.

APS is also highly engaged in the communities it serves. In 2018, employees devoted more than 121,000 volunteer hours, and APS contributed $10.8 million to charitable causes, including $3.6 million invested in education.

Autism affects a significant number of people as ASD is at a 600 percent increase year after year, according to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. Now that Visit Mesa has become the first-ever destination marketing organization designated as a “Certified Autism Center”, the city is working toward becoming the first U.S. travel destination to earn the distinction. Guest-facing staff at Mesa businesses are actively completing autism sensitivity and awareness training. Meet: Sedona Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau

The Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau (SCC&TB) is the official Destination Management Organization (DMO) for the Sedona, Arizona area.

Most people deem Sedona’s tourism industry as a great success.  Sedona’s 10,000 residents welcome an average of three million visitors a year which has an annual economic impact of $1 billion, supporting 10,000 jobs.  Tourism generates 77% of the City’s sales taxes which pay for quality of life services that locals have come to depend on. Plus, the City of Sedona doesn’t have a property tax because of the revenues generated from tourism.

While tourism success brings many advantages, it also requires great civic responsibility. Mitigating negative elements such as congested roadways, overuse of specific areas, a reduced range of affordable housing, and competition for services between residents and visitors has taken top priority. “We feel challenged by issues such as traffic and overcrowding while at the same time valuing the economic benefit,” says Jennifer Wesselhoff, President/CEO of the SCC&TB.

That’s why the SCC&TB is pleased to announce a revolutionary change in how tourism is managed in one of America’s premier travel destinations. The Sustainable Tourism Plan responds to the challenges posed by high tourism numbers with actions ranging from environmental stewardship of Sedona’s famous red rocks to reducing noise, traffic congestion and overcrowding at popular locations.

“Our stunning landscape and amazing cultural amenities inspire people everywhere,” says Wesselhoff. “Falling in love with Sedona is easy. The community wants to be sure we aren’t loved to death.”

Meet: Salt River Project

As a community-based not-for-profit water and energy company founded over 100 years ago, SRP provides reliable, affordable water and power to more than 2 million people living in central Arizona. SRP has provided these essential resources for more than a century to meet the needs of customers and help the region grow.

Today, SRP is one of the nation’s largest public power utilities. They provide electricity to approximately 1 million retail customers in a 2,900-square-mile service area that spans three Arizona counties, including most of the Phoenix metropolitan area. They are an integrated utility, providing generation, transmission and distribution services, as well as metering and billing services.

SRP is dedicated to creating a sustainable future that begins now. In 2004, SRP’s Board of Directors approved the Sustainable Portfolio which set a target for meeting retail energy requirements from sustainable sources. They are on track to meet their goal of 20% by 2020, and have an even more ambitious plan that looks ahead to 2035.

That plan, the 2035 Sustainability Goals, was approved by the SRP Board in October 2017. The plan goals include: reducing our carbon footprint, ensuring water resiliency, modernizing the energy grid, promoting a sustainable supply chain and reducing waste, and engaging with our communities.

Reducing is often associated with objects, but the idea can also be applied to energy and water use. What we save today is then available for the future. This is why SRP provides customers with a variety of programs and resources that allow them to be a part of our sustainability efforts, which in turn reduce your costs. From rebates to their Shade Tree Program, not only will you save, you’ll also be helping conserve our natural resources.

Meet: Hensley Beverage Co.

Back in 1955, Jim Hensley had a dream to bring ice cold beer – an American tradition best enjoyed with family and friends – to thirsty Phoenicians. That year, Jim started his company with just 15 employees and, together, they brought over 73,000 cases of Anheuser-Busch beers to folks in Phoenix.

Today – with a proprietary service fleet of more than 800 vehicles and the support of more than 1,100 employees – Hensley is one of the largest family-owned and operated beverage distributors in the nation. These days, Hensley brings refreshment to people all across Arizona, and champions over 2,500 different beers, craft brews, fine wine, premium spirits and delicious non-alcoholic beverages too.

While Hensley’s business is to sell world-class beverages, our mission is to treat our partners and customers like family, and our philosophy is to do much more. As a longstanding member of Phoenix and its surrounding communities, Hensley believes in actively promoting responsibility. We are a nationally-recognized leader in campaigns to reduce alcohol abuse, underage drinking, and drunk driving.

In 2001, to further serve our communities, the Hensley Employee Foundation was born – funded in part by our employees themselves. This foundation, along with Hensley’s corporate contributions, has donated a significant amount of money since its inception to organizations that advocate healthcare, education, housing, community development, human rights, diversity, anti-poverty, and social welfare programs.

What sets the Hensley Employee Foundation apart is the personal commitment from our employees themselves – employees who not only contribute financially to its mission, but who make organizing and participating in charitable work part of their everyday lives.

At Hensley, not only are we honored to bring people the beverage brands they love, we are proud to be making a difference too.

Meet: Arizona Diamondbacks

Today’s #MemberMonday is Arizona’s Major League Baseball team – The Arizona Diamondbacks!  A member of the National League (NL) West division, the team has played every home game in franchise history at Chase Field, formerly known as Bank One Ballpark. The Diamondbacks memorably won the World Series in 2001, defeating the New York Yankees, making them the fastest expansion team in the Major Leagues to win a championship.  They remain the only major league men’s sports team from Arizona to have won a championship title.  Since joining the MLB, the Diamondbacks have won five NL West division titles, one NL pennant, one Wild Card game, and of course, the 2001 World Series.

The Diamondbacks also take pride in their commitment to the greater Arizona community.  Established in 1997, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation was established with the mission to support three main areas of need: homelessness, indigent healthcare and children’s programs of all types, including education and youth baseball and softball field building and renovation, outreach programs and equipment. In addition, the Foundation has created strategic programs that address the needs of our community including veterans, police, teachers, and firefighters – just to name a few.  To date, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation have made charitable contributions totaling more than $60 million to non-profit organizations from across Arizona.

Of the $60 million total, $50 million has been distributed through the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. The majority of funds are raised through events and programs such as the annual Evening on the Diamond Gala, 50/50 Raffle, D-backs Celebrity Golf Classic, D-backs Race Against Cancer, Diamonds Back Field Building Program, License Plate Program, D-backs Authentics, Chase Field Tour Program, Mystery Ball, Online Auctions and major gifts from our players and partners in our community.

The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation distributes funds through our Community Grants, and Grand Slam Awards, Diamonds Back Field Building, Education Initiatives, Youth Baseball and Outreach programs, and strategic partnerships with key community partners and non-profit organizations.

Since 2000, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation has built or refurbished 41 baseball fields as part of the “Diamonds Back” Field Building Program representing a charitable investment of more than $10 million. In partnership with APS and a charitable gift from individual players, the program has allowed children from across the state to play baseball and softball at quality facilities. The fields generally feature new lights, an electronic scoreboard, new fencing and backstops, new irrigation and new grass and dirt. For a complete list of “Diamonds Back” Fields, or to download a field building application.

In 2012, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation partnered with the University of Phoenix to launch the D-backs School Challenge, a statewide grant program that challenged public, private and charter to school to “make their best pitch” for a $5000 grant. By the end of 2012, $250,000 had been awarded to 51 schools from across the state. The charitable grants funded everything from library upgrades to asbestos removal including a solar house project, multiple robotics programs, literacy projects, school gardens, and so much more.

To summarize the D-backs’ commitment to establishing a footprint in communities throughout Arizona, the organization became the first professional sports team to win the inaugural 2010 United Nations NGO Positive Peace Award, beating out other MLB teams such as the Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox as well as the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks and NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts. The award, which is viewed as a 21st century peace prize, honors and recognizes organizations positively impacting their communities through corporate responsibility. The D-backs were specifically awarded for their work with the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) and the Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix.

The Arizona Diamondbacks take great pride in being recognized as a leader in community giving. Their commitment to the needs of our state will continue be a cornerstone of their corporate mission.

You can learn more about the Diamondbacks, the 2019 schedule, and ticket packages at www.dbacks.com.

Meet: Enchantment Resort and the City of Sedona

Spring blooms fashion season, and the design team for H&M, inspired by mineral pools, sought out our very own Sedona, Arizona, and the iconic Enchantment Resort. H&M made a bold decision not to debut its Spring 2019 collection via Paris Fashion Week, instead, it chose Sedona and 60 internet influencers to launch its new line. These influencers came together to debut the new line in a non-traditional runway show.

The dramatic red rocks of Sedona set the tone for the H&M experience beyond comparison – a connection to nature, exhilarating adventures, deep relaxation, and the feeling of awe and wonder again and again.

Sedona’s natural beauty and livability provide a balance between economic health, driven largely by tourism revenues, and a year-round wonderland of outdoor activity, personal enrichment, spirituality and western & native culture.  The Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau remarkably fosters a mission in which promoting this destination provides an understanding of its incredible assets of inspiring arts and culture, exhilarating outdoor adventure and wellness in a friendly and sustainable environment.

There is nowhere on earth quite like it.

Set on 70 acres of panoramic natural terrain, Enchantment Resort stands at the doorway of secluded Boynton Canyon, surrounded by red rock formations known for inspiring the mind, body and spirit.

No one knows when the first humans arrived in Boynton Canyon, but this magnificent setting is part of the creation story told by the elders from various Arizona tribes. The prehistoric waters that covered the Southwest left behind incredible red rock formations, which, in turn, attracted ancient peoples — seeking places of natural beauty and energy.

Enchantment Resort lives up to its spectacular setting with architecture and activities that pay tribute to the history of this colorful region.

Whether you are on a Grand Canyon vacation or romantic getaway, make sure

to stop at our unique southwest resort and sip a prickly pear margarita while you enjoy breathtaking red rock views. Experience the Native American culture of this distinctive region. And let the kids enjoy Camp Coyote, designed to educate and entertain children age 4-12.

Read more about H&M disrupting the fashion industry here.  Explore the Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau website to learn more about this incredible community.

Meet: Castle Hot Springs

Castle Hot Springs is a historical icon, nestled in a rugged and remote desert location. Virtually abandoned for almost 40 years, this natural gem in the Bradshaw Mountains continued to produce healing thermal waters even while the resort property itself was empty and uncared for.

Determined to return the Springs to its past glory and elevate the experience to levels never before seen, a couple who are long-time Phoenix area business owners have lovingly rebuilt an unmatched, end-to-end experience that dares to promise that visitors will leave better than they arrived. Through the curation of magical experiences, unparalleled hospitality, 5-star culinary offerings — combined with adventure, natural beauty, and the healing waters — we believe that promise is achievable. Castle Hot Springs is managed by Westroc Hospitality, who also operate the Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa, Hotel Valley Ho and Mountain Shadows.

Celebrities and dignitaries from around the world found their way to the health-giving waters of Castle Hot Springs including western writer Zane Grey, prominent families like the Vanderbilts, Astors, Roosevelts, Kennedys, and Wrigleys. President Theodore Roosevelt even stayed at the resort during the dedication of the Roosevelt Dam. In the 1940s the resort was used as a military rehabilitation center to treat veterans wounded during World War II. One famous soldier who rested at Castle Hot Springs was future president John F. Kennedy, who spent three months recovering from wounds.

The natural hot springs at the heart of our property issue the warmest water from a non-volcanically active source on earth. Minerals dissolve into the water differently from anywhere else. This is the secret behind the healing energy that has drawn people for generations.

All of the beautiful, finely crafted, and well-appointed rooms at Castle Hot Springs were designed to envelop you in unparalleled luxury that anticipates your each and every need. You’ll begin to unwind the moment you open the door to your private oasis. Our rooms are fashioned to deliver complete relaxation, sparing nothing to ensure you are completely at ease. Fall into a deep, uninterrupted sleep in our rich and luxurious bedding. Wash away your worries in our deep soaking tubs. Enjoy a world free from electronics and reconnect with what is truly important.

Meet: ISM Raceway

This past year, ISM Raceway underwent an impressive $178 million renovation to better serve fans and the community. The raceway’s grand opening will publicly debut its renovations for its fall NASCAR race November 9-11, 2018. The all-new ISM Raceway track focused on improving the fan experience, from new grandstands, to a completely redesigned INfield, relocated Start/Finish Line, new pedestrian tunnel, and more. Your race weekend experience has gotten a major upgrade! All of these improvements were made with your comfort, convenience and entertainment in mind, and ISM is excited to share them with you.

As recent as the 2018 March NASCAR Weekend, the Grandstand seats were benches. Those seats were upgraded from a bench to individual 20″ seats. Better yet, they come equipped with cup holders! The new grandstand also includes individual seating with a combination of 20″ and 21″ seats.

The INfield at ISM Raceway has been entirely reworked, starting with how you get there. Fans will now have convenient access from the DC Solar Power Pavilion near the new Start/Finish Line directly to The INfield. And speaking of The INfield, with five new garages that feature Driver interaction opportunities just for hardcore fans like you. The Pits, the amazing garage access sites, watching your favorite Drivers enter the Driver’s Meeting (and then the opportunity to watch the meeting through glass walls) will be a part of The INfield. And to sweeten the deal, it also will include access to watch Gatorade Victory Lane post-race celebration ceremonies from a fan viewing point.

If all this weren’t enough to make your experience unreal, when your stomach rumbles, new dining areas, including two new concessions sites and a bar, will be there at your service. We’re also made more additions with your safety, and the Driver’s safety, in mind, including a new AMR Care Center, added Guest Services and EMS, as well as new fire support and a tire support structure. Finally, your favorite media members will find a home in the newly constructed Media Center. Winning — all around!

Meet: Qwick

Qwick has made finding highly rated food and beverage professionals easy and affordable. Launched in February of this year, Qwick has already partnered with over 2,300 workers and 50 businesses here in Phoenix. This success is in part due to their quality over quantity approach. Every worker is put through an extensive vetting process which includes a 14 point Qwick Certification™. As a result, Qwick workers have an average rating of 4.97 (out of 5) generated directly from the businesses that use them. Their rating system not only ensures quality but also allows for businesses to create their own custom pool of workers that they know and trust. Essentially, an on call list is generated without the hassle of managing it. The other piece to Qwick’s success is their easy to use application.

Qwick has built a truly innovative web app that allows users to request workers in less than two minutes. The process is simple, log in, request workers, rate them when they are done. Because of this, many hotels and restaurants in the valley have been able to use Qwick to remedy last minute call outs and fill in gaps during busy times.

Qwick set out to disrupt the staffing industry and it appears they are well on their way to doing so. No more contracts, hiring fees, or absurd markups. Fill shifts on your terms.

Qwick Update- Qwick is excited to announce that cooks have been added to the platform! You can now select from 14 front and back of house positions including servers, bartenders, dishwashers, prep cooks, line cooks, and food runners.

Qwick is in the process of adding volunteer shifts to the platform with the hope of empowering local charities by connecting them to workers ready to give back.

You can request workers anytime by going to https://www.qwick.com/business/

Today, the tournament remains in the Scottsdale-Phoenix area, making a move to Phoenix Country Club in 2017.

The Charles Schwab Cup Championship is a 72-hole tournament on PGA TOUR Champions, a membership organization for professional golfers, age 50 and above.
